"It's Simple For Complicated People"
Aug 10, 2024As they say, “It’s easier to stay sober than to get sober.”
People live through massive amounts of chaos. They continually stress themselves out and repeatedly fix the damage. Likewise, in sobriety, they do not have a program to follow and wonder why they keep relapsing. Don’t overcomplicate what should be simple.
In most recovery programs, the steps to staying sober are simple. Do what you’re told; there is no need to invent solutions. Others have been in your shoes; ask around. Whatever you’re going through is only as complicated as you think. Everyone around you has complex issues and personal problems to solve—you’re not as unique as you think you are.
The people who want recovery typically have intricate, multifaceted personal histories and struggle with addiction, making their path more complex. The saying, “It’s Simple For Complicated People,” highlights the contrast between the straightforward nature of recovery and the intricate and often tricky personal journeys of those who follow them.
Sobriety is not complicated; people are. Or one could say that people aren’t complex; they have too many choices. It’s not that we lack focus or talent. We lack more discipline.
