Accepting Your Character Defects

Sep 28, 2024

Focus on removing what doesn’t work. Let go of character defects that have been self-destructive.

Let go of the traits that aren't doing you any favors - things like stubbornness, anger, or being super critical of yourself or others. Recognize these traits for what they are. Take a good, honest look in the mirror and say, "These are things I want to work on." You could figure it out independently or get insights from friends or others who've been through a similar process.

When I worked on my character defects, I made a list. I also asked people, “What do you think are my character defects?” Some answers stung, but they helped me see myself as others do. Then, there's this idea of willingness: at the starting line, ready. You might not sprint yet, but you're lacing up your shoes, set to go.

Having a higher power, a source of strength is beneficial. It's like having a co-pilot on your journey. But remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Changing deeply ingrained habits takes time. There may be days when you feel you've regressed, but that's all part of the process. Stay patient and keep moving forward.

Accepting character defects means you’re ready for change, seeking help from a higher power, and being patient with yourself as you work on shedding those habits that are holding you back. It's about building a stronger, healthier you. Are you ready to accept your character defects?
