Alcohol Is Not Important
Oct 06, 2024People are always curious if you don’t drink alcohol, “You don’t drink…why?” They always want to know why, but this isn’t true for other things. If I don’t wish to have salami, nobody will say, “You don’t want salami…why?!” This puts so much pressure on people who want to abstain because everyone wants to know why you’re not drinking, maybe because you don’t want to!
One factor is alcohol’s association with stress relief and relaxation. Many people turn to alcohol as a means of unwinding after a long day. I get it; it can alleviate anxiety for some, but that’s because they need better, long-lasting coping mechanisms.
Also, peer pressure and societal norms influence alcohol consumption. In social settings, abstaining can be viewed as unconventional or even suspicious. People feel compelled to drink to fit in or avoid judgment, perpetuating the idea that alcohol is an essential component of social interaction.
It’s essential to recognize that alcohol is not a necessary or inherently beneficial substance. It is a toxin that can have detrimental effects on both physical and mental health. Not drinking is a valid and commendable decision that others should respect.
Here’s the thing: you have to drink. If you don’t drink (water), you’ll die, but you do not need alcohol, period. Full stop. It’s a poison that can eventually kill you. The key lies in empowering yourself to make choices that align with your values and prioritize health above societal expectations. Whether one chooses to indulge in alcohol or opt for healthier alternatives like water, what matters most is making informed decisions that contribute to overall well-being.
