Focus on Adaptability

Sep 04, 2024

If we stayed the same forever, life would be dull. However, knowing when to alter our behaviors is the key to mitigating harm to ourselves and others. Much of addiction is abuse to yourself. It could be from childhood trauma, neglect, or many other things, but as we become adults, it’s essential to take things into our own hands. We can’t make excuses forever.

Change is hard, no doubt. If sobriety were a piece of cake, then it wouldn’t be a unique experience to recover. We celebrate and count days because it’s complicated. Addiction is a journey; it goes up and down like a roller coaster, and the hope is that at our lowest moments, we take accountability and implement a plan never to go back to that place.

Be adaptable but not content. If we become satisfied with despair and the lows of addiction, then we’ll be comfortable in that place. We must evolve, change, and grow - one day at a time.

Embrace change and adaptability in your journey. Adaptability is a skill that enhances your ability to navigate challenges. What challenges have you handled poorly that you’d do differently (next time) if given the chance?
