Small Steps Matter
Jun 02, 2024In my late twenties, I was a competitive runner. I ran four marathons one year and qualified for the Boston and New York marathons. I was part of a running group, and one of the members was Emma, a 30-year-old accountant who, until then, had led a sedentary lifestyle but read an article about running and was inspired. However, running a marathon seemed impossible for her because she barely exercised.
Determined to change, Emma joined our running club and started small. Her first step was to walk 60 minutes each day. This small commitment was manageable, and she stuck to it. After a couple of weeks, she felt more energetic and decided to add a little more challenge: jogging one mile daily.
With each week, Emma gradually increased her jogging time. It was a slow process, but she didn't rush it. She celebrated each little victory, like the first time she jogged for 10 miles without stopping. These small achievements kept her motivated. After several months, Emma was jogging 8 and 10 miles without any problem. She found solace in a community of runners who shared her passion and provided much-needed support and motivation. Encouraged by her new friends, she set a marathon goal.
On the day of the marathon, Emma was nervous but excited. She completed the race, not fast, but she crossed the finish line with sheer determination. That moment was not just a victory but a transformative experience; what once seemed impossible was now a reality, and she was a living testament to the power of perseverance.
Emma’s journey is a testament to the power of small steps and patience. Monumental goals can be achieved one step at a time, proving that patience and perseverance lead to remarkable transformations. Think of your sobriety and the changes you want to make. What small steps can be accomplished to reach your goal?
